John "Johnny" Whalawitsa (63) passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 in Coulee Dam, Washington. Born Sunday, July 5, 1953 in Nespelem, Washington to Lawrence E. & Sophie Dick-Whalawitsa, Johnny graduated from Madras High School in Madras, Oregon, before studying carpentry for two years in college. He enjoyed working in construction as a carpenter and laborer for various places, including the Colville Reservation, the 3rd powerhouse at Grand Coulee Dam, the Nisqually Long House, The Rocky Boy Reservation in Montana, in Hermiston, Oregon and Albuquerque, NM. John "Johnny" Whalawitsa (63) passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017 in Coulee Dam, Washington. Born Sunday, July 5, 1953 in Nespelem, Washington to Lawrence E. & Sophie Dick-Whalawitsa, Johnny graduated from Madras High School in Madras, Oregon, before studying carpentry for two years in college. He enjoyed working in construction as a carpenter and laborer for various places, including the Colville Reservation, the 3rd powerhouse at Grand Coulee Dam, the Nisqually Long House, The Rocky Boy Reservation in Montana, in Hermiston, Oregon and Albuquerque, NM. A proud member of the Colville Confederated Tribes and huge Oakland Raider's Fan, Johnny enjoyed hunting and driving to the casino, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his Grandkids - especially watching them play sports.
Predeceased by his mother: Sophie Dick-Whalawitsa; nephews: Jeremiah Whalawitsa & Matthew Whalawitsa and several aunts and uncles; John's legacy lives on through his father: Lawrence Whalawitsa; daughter: Ginell Moon (Ronald); sons: Robert Nault (Brenda) and Sunny Whalawitsa; nine grandchildren; brother: Lawrence J. Whalawitsa; sister: Shirley Apodoca (Martin) and numerous nephews and nieces.
His wake began at 7:00pm on Thursday, May 11, 2017, in the Catholic Long House in Nespelem, Washington, with Funeral Services held at 10:00am, Friday, May 12, 2017, also at the Catholic Longhouse in Nespelem. Cremation has taken place at Johnny's request.
